Gun Control - A Different Take

By now I am sure you have all heard the parable of the frogs, but I think it needs to be repeated here. You have two frogs and two pots of water. One pot has boiling water in it. If you toss one of the frogs into the pot of boiling water, the frog will jump out to safety to avoid being cooked. If you put the other frog in room temperature water and then slowly heat it, the frog will be cooked before he knows it.

The parable is particularly important now with the gun grab hysteria sweeping the nation. We hear of legislation being floated which is very scary but most recognize as not being viable. At the end of the day, the resulting legislation will be a very watered down version of what is being proposed. Gun enthusiasts will breathe a sigh of relief saying that it could have been much worse. Anti-second amendment types will laugh at the hand wringing of the gun enthusiasts, saying that their hysteria was unfounded and we are all safer now. Those in power will understand that we have taken one more step toward tyranny.

I propose that we change the game. At this time in our history, we gun owners should insist our representatives, if they are going to saddle us with unconstitutional gun laws, do gun control the correct way. We should demand that they pass legislation which:

·         Outlaws all semi-automatic rifles.

·         Outlaws all rifle magazines which hold more than 10 rounds.

·         Outlaw all shotguns which hold more than 3 shells.

·         Outlaw all handguns.

·         Anyone in possession of any of these items 90 days after passage of the law shall be arrested and tried as a felon, receiving a federal prison incarceration upon conviction of 10 years to life.

On day 91 after the law passes, all owners of the the newly illegal firearms/accessories should go immediately to their local law enforcement facility, turn themselves in, plead guilty and waive their right to a trial, and demand speedy sentencing.

The implications for business, the legal system, the penal system, and society in general should be readily apparent. Do we have the intestinal fortitude to do this? This is the government’s end game, so the question really should be do we want to be the frog tossed in the boiling water or the room temperature pot?
